SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (Autonomous), Mysuru was established in the year 1982 under the aegis of Mahajana Education Society that took its origin in1937 by visionary philanthropists like Sri Amble Subramanya, Sri Rattehalli Ramappa and others in the city of Mysuru. The UG campus which is located centrally in a premier residential area, Jaylakshmipuram, offers B.A, BBA, B.Com and B.Sc./B.C.A programs with well-built infrastructure spread over 6 acres comprising spacious class rooms with ICT facility, a well –stacked library housed in a separate wing on two floors, well equipped laboratories, Audio- visual as well as studio –media centre and spacious stadium with a full-fledged gym. The college has also been offering programs under UGC Community College since 2014.

The college has the unique distinction of being the first under graduate college under the University of Mysore to offer post graduate programs since 1999. The post graduate wing is housed in an independent scenic campus of 18 acres. It offers 10 Master degree programs in various subjects like Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, MCA, Computer Science, Social Work, Commerce, Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality.  The PG Centre with its motto ‘Enter to Learn and Depart to Serve’ also lays thrust on research. Mahajana Research Foundation was established with aim of promoting research culture not only among staff but also students.  The foundation is also involved in publication services.  The School of Life Sciences, the department of Commerce and the department of Business Administration have R&D centers recognized by University of Mysore for Ph.D. programs. The School of Life Sciences also has academic and research collaborations with BTL Medical Development, Czech Republic, Mush & Corp, Republic of Korea, CSIR-IITR, Lucknow, Adichunchanagiri University, Zeus Biotech and SDMMMK, Mysuru.  Some of the distinctive facilities at the centre are an Incubation Centre, Entrepreneur Development Cell and a very active placement cell.

Currently 100 plus well-qualified teachers with commitment towards the cause of education ably supported and encouraged by the management have seen the college successfully come through three cycles of NAAC accreditation. In the last cycle in the year 2015 the college was awarded ‘A’ grade. The college also enjoys the recognition of UGC as College with Potential for Excellence which is in its second phase. Thus it has carved a niche for itself in the field of tertiary education in its three and a half decades of promoting  higher education  with the Motto of  ‘Education to Excel’ and imparting education to make finer citizens as enshrined in its vision statement built on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.  It has been attracting students across the country and also at the international level making its presence felt on the map of premier education institutions.

During the past one and a half decade the college has given thrust on developing students as leaders through its unique concept of ‘Student Parliament’ wherein the students are given leadership opportunities through ASIC (Administration, Student, Institutional and Curricular Support) fora which have provided the students a plethora of learning opportunities outside the classrooms and beyond the regular outfits like the award winning NCC and NSS units. Students have discovered and unleashed their potential through SARANTA- theatre troupe, VoMC (volunteering) Rotaract and a host of others. The Achievers of the college are felicitated at the Weekly Assembly and thus given the rich recognition they deserve. Illustrious persons from different walks of society like former president Sri APJ Abdul Kalam, Noble laureate            Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Sri Sunderlal Bahuguna, Salumarada Thimakka, Sri Jaggi Vasudev (alumnus of Mahajana School), Singer Vijay Prakash, Litterateur Chandra Shekara Kambara, and a host of others have set their foot on the corridors of the institution leaving behind thousands of minds inspired.  The college has been flourishing well by creating a healthy and distinct learning atmosphere which is an amalgamation of academics and vibrant culture of arts, and sports making both the campuses a beehive of activities.
